Covid update Jan 9: 85 new cases over the past two days.

Sunday January 9.

There are 85 new cases of Covid-19 over the past two days. The Ministry of Health did not release numbers on Saturday 8 January (yesterday) so today's numbers include yesterday and today.

Two of the cases in Wellington were announced yesterday, and have been linked to a Drum and Bass festival in Tauranga.

It is thought few acts playing in Tauranga were also present at Auckland's Plain Sailing festival yesterday.

Of these cases, 57 are in Auckland, 7 in Waikato, 1 in Taranaki, 16 in Bay of Plenty, 2 in the Lakes District and 2 in Wellington.

There are 31 people in hospital, with 2 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 58.

95 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 92 percent have had a second dose.

There have been 4,702,725 vaccine pass downloads, including 10,628 in the last 24 hours.

There are no new cases of Omicron in the community.

More than 21,000 booster shots were administered yesterday.
