There are 9,495 new cases of Covid-19 today, 15 people with the virus have died and there are 551 people in hospital.

Of these cases there are 455 in Northland, 1,828 Auckland, 718 in Waikato, 421 in Bay of Plenty, 176 in Lakes, 355 in Hawke’s Bay, 461 in MidCentral, 181 in Whanganui, 288 in Taranaki, 84 in Tairāwhiti, 109 in Wairarapa, 607 in Capital and Coast, 375 in Hutt Valley, 307 in Nelson Marlborough, 1,670 in Canterbury, 208 in South Canterbury, 1,148 in Southern, 94 in West Coast, and 10 in unknown locations.

There are currently 64,997 active cases in the community. 

The seven-day rolling average of case numbers continues to decline. Today's seven-day rolling average is at 9,288 and last Tuesday, it was 12,307.

The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.

Since the pandemic started, the total of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 793,740.

Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths

15 people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the publicly reported total to date to 531.

These deaths, announced today, all occurred over the past eight days, including 11 in the past 48 hours.

Of these deaths, one was from Northland, four from the Auckland region, one from Waikato, one from Bay of Plenty, one from Lakes DHB area, two from MidCentral, three from Nelson Marlborough, and two from Canterbury.

One person was aged in their 40s, two in their 50s, two in their 60s, four in their 70s, five in their 80s, and one over 90.

Eight were female and seven were male.

The seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 13.

There are 551 people in hospital, with 27 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 58.

Vaccinations 

96.4 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.2 percent have had a second dose.

71.7 percent of eligible people have had their booster shot.

Vaccinated Australians are now able to enter New Zealand.

Testing 

The number of PCR tests taken over the past 24 hours is 2,814 and the number of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) that have been reported in the past 24 hours is 15,547.
