The total number of publicly reported Covid-19 deaths to date is now 117. Today, there are 21,616 new cases of Covid-19.
Of these, 708 are in Northland, 6,085 are in Auckland, 2,062 in Waikato, 1,424 in Bay of Plenty, 633 in Lakes, 1,111 in Hawke's Bay, 888 in MidCentral, 276 in Whanganui, 510 in Taranaki, 446 in Tairāwhiti, 229 in Wairarapa, 1,584 in Capital and Coast, 987 in Hutt Valley, 524 in Nelson Marlborough, 2,642 in Canterbury, 217 in South Canterbury, 1,238 in Southern, 43 in West Coast, and 9 in unknown locations.
This brings the total number of active cases to 193,108.
The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last 10 days and not yet classified as recovered.
Hospitalisations and Covid-19 deaths
Two people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the total Covid-19 related deaths to date to 117.
One occurred in Southern and one in Capital & Coast district health boards. Both people were aged over 70 years.
The Ministry of Health reports on deaths of all people who die within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.
There are 960 people in hospital, with 22 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.
The average age of people currently in hospital is 58.
Testing
The Ministry of Health is encouraging people to get tested if they have any Covid-19 symptoms.
If you take a RAT you must report the result, positive or negative. This can be done online through MyCovidRecord, or by calling 0800 222 478 between 8am and 8pm.
Vaccinations
96.7 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.3 percent have had a second dose.
72.8 percent of eligible people have gotten the booster.
