There are 6,636 new cases of Covid-19 today and seven people with the virus have died.
Of these cases there are 141 in Northland, 1,956 in Auckland, 423 in Waikato, 215 in Bay of Plenty, 105 in Lakes, 167 in Hawke’s Bay, 266 in MidCentral, 68 in Whanganui, 206 in Taranaki, 77 in Tairāwhiti, 71 in Wairarapa, 419 in Capital and Coast, 179 in Hutt Valley, 275 in Nelson Marlborough, 1,120 in Canterbury, 98 in South Canterbury, 784 in Southern, 63 in West Coast, 3 in unknown locations.
There are currently 52,860 active cases in the community.
The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.
Today’s seven-day rolling average of case numbers is 7,553 – last Monday it was 8,355.
Since the pandemic started, the total of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 940,151.
A second person has been confirmed as having the BA.4 variant of Omicron, a day after the first case was reported at New Zealand’s border.
Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths
Seven people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the total to date to 757.
The deaths being reported today include people who have died over the previous two days.
Of the people whose deaths are being reporting today, three people were from Auckland, one from Waikato, one from Bay of Plenty, one from Wairarapa and one from Canterbury.
One person was in their 40s, one in their 50s, three in their 80s and two were aged over 90.
Of these people, one was a woman and six were men.
The 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 11.
There are 480 people in hospital, with 12 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.
The average age of people currently in hospital is 59.
Vaccinations
96.4 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.1 percent have had a second dose.
72.7 percent of eligible people have had their booster shot.
Testing
The number of PCR tests taken over the past 24 hours is 1,885 and the number of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) that have been reported in the past 24 hours is 10,860.
