There are 8,609 new cases of Covid-19 today. Of the 20 people with Covid-19 who have died, one was under the age of 10. 

Of these, 207 are in Northland, 2,796 are in Auckland, 543 in Waikato, 237 in Bay of Plenty, 135 in the Lakes district, 229 in Hawke's Bay, 347 in MidCentral, 104 in Whanganui, 239 in Taranaki, 68 in Tairāwhiti, 88 in Wairarapa, 575 in Capital and Coast, 242 in Hutt Valley, 323 in Nelson Marlborough, 1,379 in Canterbury, 114 in South Canterbury, 900 in the Southern district, 76 in the West Coast and 7 in unknown locations.

The total number of active cases is 53,775.

The Ministry of Health defines active cases as those identified in the last seven days and not yet classified as recovered.

Hospitalisations and Covid-19 related deaths

20 people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the publicly reported total to date to 821.

Of those who have died, one person was under 10, one in their 50s, five in their 60s, two in their 70s, seven in their 80s and four were over 90.

There are 386 people in hospital, with 14 of those people in intensive care or high dependency units.

The average age of people currently in hospital is 58. 

Testing

4,311 PCR tests have been processed in the past 24 hours, and 16,107 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) results logged.

Vaccinations

96.4 percent of New Zealand's eligible population have had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 95.2 percent have had a second dose.

70.9 percent of the eligible population have gotten a booster vaccination.
