Arriving in Kaitaia from Barbados as a child, Kii Winston Small felt isolated and unsure of where he stood in the world. But tracing back his lineage in an article for Victoria University’s Salient Magazine helped him find what was missing. “I fully felt like I knew myself, for the first time in life.” Now, Kii has set up a collaborative writing platform to help young New Zealanders feel the same.
