Rez Gardi was born in a refugee camp. She and her family are Kurdish, who are the world’s largest group of people without an independent country. A Harvard law graduate, Rez now works as a human rights lawyer and a Kurdish advocate. She shares her story of arriving to New Zealand as a refugee when she was 6, and how her place in the country changed after 9/11.

The Outliers is a series profiling impressive young people from minority backgrounds who are standing out from their peers.
