Māori weather presenter Te Rauhiringa Brown reacts to public feedback

“Ka taea te whakatika te reo hapa, heoi, tē taea te whakatika te reo ngū.”
“You can fix a language that’s broken, but you can’t fix a language that’s not spoken.”

More and more people are using te reo Maori. You might hear it while walking down the street, in a conversation at the supermarket and on our screens.

Te Rauhiringa Brown's first language is Māori. She is a reporter at TVNZ and since July, she been presenting the weather. She uses te reo throughout the broadcast and speaks of her joy at being able to be her authentic Māori self on air.
