The Christchurch neighbourhood that smells like ass crack

“You can't hang your washing out. Can't do anything because it comes in smelling like ass.”

In November 2021, a fire broke out at the Bromley sewage treatment plant which caused the whole suburb to smell like shit.

Christchurch City Council has done a lot to try and fix it but one year on residents say when the wind blows their way, it still reeks.

It got so bad, some residents left for good.

“I'm planning on moving because of the smell. It’s awful because I’m from this area. I was brought up in this area and it’s disgusting.”
