This activist couple fights in support of decolonisation

Pere and Samah Huriwai-Seger are an activist couple dedicated to fighting against what they describe as the “ongoing colonisation” of whenua in Aotearoa.

Through their mahi, they have developed a deep understanding of the devastating impact colonisation has had on Māori, their land, their water, and the environment.

Their organisation, the Aotearoa Liberation League, is trying to show that decolonisation is not just about addressing historical wrongs, but about creating a society where everyone can thrive.

They believe that it is our collective responsibility to work towards a more equitable and just future.

This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created by Mahi Tahi Media, with funding from Te Māngai Pāho. Stay tuned for a new episode every week.
