Touring a destroyed Gisborne home
By Baz Macdonald and Te Kuru Dewes
Gary Watson showed us through his house in Vogel street, Gisborne following Cyclone Gabrielle.
The suburb of Whataupoko sits where the Taruheru and Waimata rivers meet.
These rivers burst their barriers and swamped large sections of Gisborne underwater.
Gary’s home was completely flooded, destroying all of his possessions, his car, and making his home uninhabitable.
The surrounding area is completely submerged under mud and silt.
