Turning sex work into a career | Red Light Boys
By Azita Agnew and Johnny Agnew
“No money is worth your health. Particularly in this job. Your body is your business.”
This year was the 20th anniversary of the decriminalisation of sex work in Aotearoa – the first country to do so. This has had huge benefits for the industry, but sex workers are still struggling with the shame associated with the industry.
Many sex workers are fearful to openly operate their business because of the shame and guilt associated with their work. This attitude can be harmful for young sex workers who suffer from the lack of community and family support.
Many male sex workers have had to find community and whānau in unique places.
Red Light Boys is a 5-part docuseries that looks into the day-to-day lives of male sex workers as they navigate the misunderstood and complex world of sex work.
Made with the support of NZ On Air.
